Few people realize how closely oral health is linked to cardiac health, says Dr. Michael Froeschl, an interventional cardiologist at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.

The average American increased their consumption of HFCS (mostly from sugar sweetened drinks and processed food) from zero to over 60 pounds per person per year. During that time period, obesity rates have more than tripled and diabetes incidence has increased more than seven fold. Not perhaps the only cause, but a fact that cannot be ignored.

The city stopped putting fluoride into Calgary's drinking supply as of Thursday.
However, it will be at least a week before the fluoride drops back to naturally occurring levels, say city officials. Both the Bow and Elbow rivers naturally contain between .1 and .4 milligrams of fluoride per litre, depending on the time of year.

Citing concern that fluoridated water disproportionately harms poor citizens and black families, influential Atlanta civil rights leaders Andrew Young and Gerald Durley are calling on top Georgia legislators to repeal Georgia’s mandatory water fluoridation law. Young and Durley recently sent letters to legislators Chip Rogers, Robert Brown, Larry O’Neal, and Stacey Abrams, the majority and minority leaders in the Georgia Senate and House of Representatives.

The U.S. Justice Department wants big cigarette manufacturers to admit they lied about the dangers of smoking. This would force the industry to set up and pay for an advertising campaign apologizing for their past behavior, or face charges for contempt of court. The move comes as part of a 12-year-old lawsuit against the tobacco industry. The government released 14 "corrective statements."

Read the news lately? If you have, odds are you’ve run across a story about the importance of vitamin D and all of its wonderful health benefits. Recent reports show that populations around the world are suffering from vitamin D deficiency. In the U.S. alone, only one third are getting enough vitamin D. The problem is widespread and increasing, with potentially severe repercussions for overall health and bone-fracture rates.
